My vue on Apples new iPad

Well there it is,the ever so anticipated iPad. Now that its here what do we think about it? At 1st I was not impressed, It really was just a large iPod Touch. Nothing that made me go WOW I want one. Then came the Price, for 499$ it started to make sense.
There are 2 main markets for this product in my opinion.
The broader market is for the tech loving household. I can see my self waking up and walking to the living room and instead of walking to my Laptop with my coffee and cereal, I can sit on the couch and flick through my email on the iPad. If I feel like reading my favorite blogs or going on to my twitter I can do that right from there, and I can view the usual news websites and traffic updates right from that. The same story when I get back, it will be nice to have it laying around the living room to do those little routine tasks. The added bonus is the video, pictures and youtube. Its nice to flick through old iPhoto album and see some old home movies or even watch some youtube clips on while laying back on the couch. So is 499$ a good price for this lifestyle device? I think yes! How ever- if you already own an iPod touch or iPhone this 499$ may seem a bit… unnessasary.. All these things can be done very well with a product you already have.. so there starts the dilemma.
The second niche this product aims for is the commuter/traveler/business traveler what ever you want to call him/her. I can imagine a person carrying this around reading the morning news paper, a watching a TV episode they missed.It does make sense but this means the price goes up significantly by at least another 130$ PLUS the added 30$ a month for the data. This is where the hole in this product shows. If this person is the type to be reading a news paper,ebook or watch content online in a subway,coach,or back of a car, the chances are that he/she already owns a iPhone/BlackBerry/Android/or any other smart phone and be paying a mobile subscription for it. It just wont make sense to pay a extra 30$  a month and carry this thing around and have the added weight. The kindle does the same job with news papers and books for half the cost and zero monthly fees.
So the bottom line on the iPad is that its a good device, aimed at a very specific audience. 1) the Tech loving 20-30 some thing Male to use at home and 2) The commuter who needs to catch up on the email and web or watch some media on route and may be view some iWork presentations or spreadsheets during the day.
The negative points of the devise are-
1) Lack of  Multitasking. If I’m watching a YouTube clip and I get a mail it would be nice to read that while the clip plays in the background.
2)No Card reader/USB- This is a very bad point if they wish to market this as a media device. I always plug my SD card from the camera and view pics on the laptop, it would be a pain to carry the iPad to the laptop and copy the pics each time I want to see some pics on it.  NO I don’t want to pay for a ugly plug in ad-on.
3)No Camera- It would be nice to be able to snap a picture or make a movie and save it to the albums.
4) FLASH! Please please c’mon this is trivial!
I guess this would be a great buy for any one looking to buy in to an apple product without cashing out a large amount of money, 499$ is a relatively affordable price for most people.How ever, it wont be as appealing for any one who already owns an iPod touch or an iPhone and or an iMac or MacBook.
All in all I am guessing it wont be a failure, but it wont be a greatly loved and adored device either. It has many holes in its logic. After a few updates ( Card Reader,Camera,Multitasking) and more apps it may be worth consideration.

Apples magic and the the new MacBook and iMac

I am totally speechless after seeing the new products today. Apple always knows how to hit the nail right in the head with there products. I had read the rumors of the new lineup but I didn't expect them to be this good.The magic mouse is like the wheel reinvented! The other makers out there must be out there scratching there head thinking why didn't we think of that!

That iMac is gorgeous. I want even in te market for a desktop and now I feel like I need it so badly. It's like love at first sight. Apple must be the only computer company that caters to the wants of people and not just the needs. Some thing about then makes you want them so much that it feels subliminal.

I was in the market for a new laptop. Even thought I love macs and apple, I convinced myself that the MacBook pro is not worth the extra money. I thought why should I spend a extra 400-500$ when I can get the same specked Dell or hp for 600-700$. Now I'm no longer convinced.... That new MacBook for 999$ seems very tempting, even if I'll have to pay a lot more than that here in the UK.

After I got off the chair I was so excited like a small child desperately desiring a new action figure. It's like the time I wanted a He-Man or Ninja turtle toy. Gotta love apple for bringing out the child in us. It's a shame that mom and dad won't pitch in for this toy though.

To buy now or wait? And what to buy?

I'm still using the 1st laptop that I've ever owned. Before this I was stuck to the table with a desktop. I liked the fact that j could take it apart and upgrade it and mod it as I liked. As I matured I realized that a good laptop that lasts a good 2-3 years is what I need.

It was 3 years ago in 2006 when I was in Boston that I made my big investment. My budget was about 1000-1200$ and my options were a Hp tx1000 tablet Pc, a fancy but ugly Dell or the MacBook pro , which at that that time also looked dull. Me being the tech addict I am couldn't say no to a touch screen and went for the Hp. It's some thing I regret now. It was perfect for about a year, other than the over heating. After that it was more a hand warmer than a laptop... And now it runs so hot that it shuts off and even the video card melts off causing the thing to go blank. Wht I leaned from this was that I should have looked in to the build quality and Clint care of the company. Hp care was terrible, they still don't admit that there was a defect, even after 100s I'd not 1000s of people have complained to them about it.

So right now, I'm in the market fkr a new laptop. The contenders are the Dell studio 15, the Dell xps studio 13, MacBook pro 13", Sony vaio NS, and the acer timeline. I don't want to spend too much on it coz I know I'll want to replace it just a few months down te line, and I'll regret it of I spent too much.

I've decided to wait for a few weeks till windows 7 settles in and I can read some reviews on it and the manufactures launch some new machines for Christmas. The rumors of apple prepping a new range of macs is also quite tempting me to wait.

I'm going to stop now coz finally my turn has arrived at the barber.

The ever evolving mobile phone

Before I go the the bit about my phone history let me sy some thing about the current one. I've been using the iPhone 3G for almost a year now, and I love it. Today I went to see the phone that claim to be the iPhone killer. It's been a couple of days since the palm Pre launched in the U.K, so I visited the local O2 to have a look at it and I was surprised at how unimpressed I was! The body felt very plasticy and cheap, the silver ball button the the bottom felt very cheap and flimsy to the press, and the web OS was very dull. It lacks that addictive feel of the iPhone. Worst of all, it was buggy. The key feature they boast about it the seamless multitasking of the pre. What I saw was that even opening the contacts card took way too long to open and once I clicked the media icon it said there were too many cards open and to close them.. And there were no other cards open!! Then the nice girl at the shop came and said may be it's an error and shell boot up another one, since I didn't have much time.. I said I'll come another time.it's not that I'm so brain washed by apple that I refuse to consider any other phone. The fact is that it's the only phone that I have felt to be complete.Let talk a bit about my past phones.

The 1st phone I owned was a Nokia Ringo. It cost almost nothing, and it did the job of making phone calls.From there on my it's been a torrent of phones in my life. If you are intrested to see the list... It's at the bottom.

Using all those phones meant a lot to me at the time I bought it, and after a couple of weeks it just became so dull. The 1st days are such a joy, as you learn te new features and show them off to your friends and fund out how the new toy makes use of the latest developments in the tech world. After a few weeks or months though , it feels old and so obsolete. It's not only due to the fast replacemt of phones , I think it's mainly due to the fact that you get bored of the same thing over and over again.

Only 2 phones have made me want then for more than a year. The 1st was the htc touch. It's user interface was just perfect and it was fast and felt great in the hand. It even navigated me all over Europe couples with a nokia Bluetooth receiver and tomtom 6. The other of course is the iPhone.Its so good that even after almost a year of using it, I can't think of replacing it. O think apple got it right my putting minimal buttons on it. The fact is thelat there is no design on it, it's utterly minimal. This makes the device future proof. Think of a hair style or a fancy printed shirt , it may look good at that moment or for a few months, bitten it gets out dated, whereas a simple neat haircut or a nice neat white or pin stripe shirt won't ever go out of style. By keeping the desighn minimal and the OS expandable apple hit the nail right on the head. People love the iPhone because it is higly customizable. No 2 people will have the same apps and you can always find new apps that make your life easier. I don't think I'd type so much if u didn't have this blogger app on this. I'm actually at the barber's killing time till my turn comes up.

Addiction to Gadgets

I am a total addict to gadgets, I cant put a finger on when it started, but I remember being fascinated by circuits. I used to love LED bulbs,playing with resistors, Capacitors,ICs, and marveled as they all came together to make a radio, a colorful dance of lights, or a  rain sensor...

This is the dull bit of my gadget histoy, so skip to the next paragraph....The 1st peice of technology that I was adicted was of course the TV, but theres nothing cool about that... some thing that blew my mind was a LED bulb, I used to play with it and even took them to school and sold them to my frinds... I think I was about 11 or 12 years old and it was back in 1996. After that period I took up eectronics and a subject in my O-Levels (Middle school) that wasnt  intresting enought to right about. I was playing with components, putting them together to make silly little circuts.. and later went to making Printed circuit boards using Ferricsulfate and a permanent marker. The most innovative thing I made was a Light dependant circut that gave a alarm that each time the beam of light was disturbed.... I thoght itll make a great security device... but a few years after, it was a common thing in the market once motion sensors came in to excistance.

Ok thats all for the boring bit...

The 1st Gadget I got that really changed my life, and still does is a Computer. It wasa AMD 586. Makes me laugh when I say it now. It was a 133Mhz, 16Mb of RAM and I think it had a 2 or 4 gb HDD and a 8 MB video card. It ran windows 95, and it meant the world to me. I remember playin  Doom,Wolfenstien, and I used Encarta encyclopedia and of course paint and word.At this time I didnt have internet.As time went on I upgraded my PC,and I have never stopped. The addiction to the computer had begun.

Its amaizing how far the computer has come, In a mear 10-15 years, we have already forgotten what the specs of those machines of the past and they seem so ancient and slow.

ok that all for now, Next I`m gona venture in to the world of mobile phones :D my favoite topic of all...

My 1st post- It may be rambling... but give it some time..

As I was laying on the couch in front of the TV watching a documentry about the invention of the Microprocessor... I thoght to my self- What the world would be without it. I cant even imagine how ancient todays world would seem if Intel never excisted, and it people like Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore didnt excist where would we be.

Last night as I lay in bed I thoguht its time I admit my addiciton to technology, and I need to put my ideas in to words so that some day I can reflect on them and see if what I thought of and predicted for the future of gadgets would come true... So hopefully this is the 1st of many posts on my ideas.
